Sleep, Children, Sleep is a German folk lullaby; in the original German, it is known as Schlaf, Kindlein, Schlaf. The oldest written version of this song has been traced back to 1611. The melody as we know it today was composed in 1781 by Johann Friedrich Reichardt, with many versions of the text to follow.
